MISSION

Articolo12 aims at respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of children and adolescents as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Articolo12 looks at children not only as beneficiaries, but especially as participants of projects, programmes and policies; the child is the theoretical basis of our work, rather than the “object” of it.

We look at children and adolescents as “agents”, as individuals and as an active part of the society to which they contribute.
Through a human rights approach, Articolo12 builds on the idea of children as citizens of the present and not only of the future.

WHICH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS?

According to the UN Convention, a child is anyone who has not yet reached the age of 18.
Articolo12 works for the rights of all children and adolescents without exception.

There are no “normal” or “deprived” childhoods or adolescences – all are special and must be protected, listened to and respected in their individuality. Articolo12 also works for the rights of young girls and boys during their transition into adulthood.

WHY ARTICOLO12?

“States parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child.

For this purpose the child shall in particular be provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child either directly, or through a representative or an appropriate body, in a manner consistent with the procedural rules of national law.”

Article 12, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Article 12 of the CRC states that all children and young people under the age of 18 have the right to be heard and to participate in decisions that concern them.

Our organization, Articolo12, aims at supporting all children throughout their path of creation and participation to the social, cultural, economic and political environment they belong to and they contribute to define on a daily basis.
