MISSION

Articolo12 aims at respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of children as stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Articolo12 does not view children merely as beneficiaries, but rather as active participants in projects, programmes and policies. Our approach is grounded in contemporary debates within the field of sociology of childhoods, emphasising children’s and adolescents’ agency and engagement.
We recognise children as ‘agents’—individuals with their own voices and opinions—while also considering their roles within a generational perspective. We firmly believe in their capacities to influence and shape the society in which they participate. Through a human rights approach, Articolo12 promotes an understanding of children as citizens of the present, not just the future.

IN DEFENSE OF THE RIGHTS OF THOSE UNDER 18

The UNCRC addresses anyone who has not yet reached the age of 18. Articolo12 works for the rights of all people under 18, without exception. Our commitment is to ensure that they are all listened to, protected, and respected in their individuality and as groups and generations.
Articolo12 also works for the rights of girls and boys who are approaching adult life.

WHY ARTICOLO12?

“States parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child. For this purpose, the child shall in particular be provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child either directly, or through a representative or an appropriate body, in a manner consistent with the procedural rules of national law.

Article 12, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Article 12 of the UNCRC states that all children and young people under the age of 18 have the right to be heard and to participate in decisions that concern them. Our organisation, Articolo12, aims to support all children in their efforts to create and shape social, cultural, economic and political spaces.
